OSHA does not require floor markings to indicate exits or ways of exit access. See §1910.37(b) for exit marking requirements.
Floor markings may be one way to keep exits clear of clutter. Section 1910.37(a)(3) requires that exit routes be free and unobstructed. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z535.1-1998, Safety Color Code, recommends the color green to indicate evacuation routes and black, white, yellow, or a combination of black and yellow for housekeeping markings. Note: ANSI Z535.1-2002, Safety Color Code, and later editions no longer have safety color meanings, which appeared in the 1998 and earlier editions.
