Do drivers need to carry a copy of the vehicle’s Department of Transportation (DOT) annual inspection form in their vehicles?

Not necessarily. All commercial motor vehicles (power units and trailers) must carry either an inspection form or an inspection sticker, not both. (396.17(c)) If the carrier’s vehicles have a compliant and current DOT annual inspection sticker, then there is no need to carry the inspection form for interstate operations.
