Question: Do drivers need to carry a copy of the vehicle’s Department of Transportation (DOT) annual inspection form in their vehicles?

Answer: Not necessarily. All commercial motor vehicles (power units and trailers) must carry either an inspection form or an inspection sticker, not both. (396.17(c)) If the carrier’s vehicles have a compliant and current DOT annual inspection sticker, then there is no need to carry the inspection form for interstate operations.
