Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Alabama does not regulate areas of discrimination outside the scope of the federal regulations. The federal areas include race, color, religion, national origin, age (40 and over), sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), disability, and genetic information (including family medical history).
There is an Alabama state statute that prohibits discrimination against workers 40 years of age and older. However, there is no designated state agency that oversees or enforces this state age discrimination law.
