Direct deposit provisions - Texas
Texas law allows an employer to adopt a direct deposit payroll system and to require employees who maintain suitable bank accounts to be paid via direct deposit. Employers must give at least 60 days’ notice before adopting a direct deposit payroll system.
For state (public) payrolls, guidance from the state comptroller strongly promotes electronic payments and agencies commonly use direct deposit, especially for employees paid through the standardized state payroll system; however, the state allows exemptions for employees who cannot or do not want to participate in direct deposit.
