In South Carolina, employers are permitted to make payment via direct deposit mandatory.
Public employers such as state agencies, universities, etc., often require employees to complete a direct-deposit authorization or to enroll in a state-sponsored employee self-service portal. However, those are administrative policy and not statutory requirements.
