In Kansas, employers (private and public) are permitted to mandate direct deposit. Employees do not need to explicitly consent to being paid by direct deposit, but they must be given the opportunity to designate a financial institution account. If employees do not designate an account, the employer is required to offer an alternative payment method, such as a payroll card or paper check.
