There is no statute in the District of Columbia that prohibits private employers from making direct deposit for payroll as a condition of employment. Federal rules regarding the receipt of notices and the employee’s choice of financial institution would apply.
For District employees, paychecks must be received either via direct deposit, or via check mailed to the employee’s address.
