Alaska law does not permit employers (private or public) to make direct deposit mandatory for employees without voluntary authorization from the employee. If an employee elects to receive direct deposit, the designated financial institution must be of the employee’s choice.
Effective July 1, 2026, employers may credit employee wages to a payroll card account if the employee has voluntarily authorized the credit, or the employee has not authorized direct deposit.
