Intrastate
Intrastate household goods common carriers must secure intrastate authority from the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission. Applications are made to the Commission with an intrastate one-time filing fee of $550. The permit number issued must be on the vehicle. Commercial vehicles of any weight are subject to authority requirements.
General commodities for-hire carriers must apply to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission with a one-time application fee of $275.
Insurance: 10,000 pounds or more gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) must have $750,000 Combined Single Limit (CSL); Under 10,000 pounds GVWR, $300,000 CSL. HHG carriers under 10,000 pounds GVWR also need cargo insurance of $10,000; 10,000 pounds GVWR or more, $20,000. A form E or G certificate must accompany each application for registration.
Interstate
Washington is a participating member of the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCRA). Online registration and fee payment is recommended and available to all carriers at the national UCRA website at www.ucr.in.gov.
