The Washington Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) adopts federal OSHA’s hexavalent chromium standard almost identically, with the following minor exceptions:
- The period of time within which an employer must notify employees of an exposure determination is five days (vs. 15 days for federal OSHA) (WAC 296-62-08009);
- For recordkeeping, WAC 296-62-08027 still requires employee Social Security numbers to be retained along with their names and job classifications (federal OSHA removed this requirement in 2019);
- All references to other parts of 1910.1026 or to other federal OSHA standards are replaced with references to the equivalent section of the Washington Administrative Code;
- Washington’s state standard applies to general industry, construction and maritime, instead of the three separate standards promulgated by federal OSHA.
