Tennessee has adopted Part 392 of the Federal Regulations.
Part 392 applies to commercial motor vehicles operated in intrastate commerce to transport property that have a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, or a motor vehicle of any gross vehicle weight transporting hazardous materials.
The speed limit is 70 mph on rural interstates and 55 mph on urban interstates and non-interstate highways. TCA 55-8-152 states that in the left-hand lane of all controlled-access highways which are federal or state routes, it shall be unlawful for any person to operate or drive a motor vehicle at a rate of less than fifty-five (55) miles per hour.
