Overview

South Dakota has adopted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Part 387 and Parts 390-397, inclusive, as amended through January 1, 2024.

Effective July 1, 2025, South Dakota has adopted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Part 387 and Parts 390-397, inclusive, as amended through January 1, 2025.

Applicability

The regulations apply to drivers and motor carriers operating intrastate vehicles and combinations of vehicles with three or more axles or with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds, and any size or type of vehicle used to transport hazardous materials requiring placarding.
