South Dakota follows the federal Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs).
- PFOA: 4 parts per trillion (ppt)
- PFOS: 4 ppt
There are no state-specific PFAS drinking water requirements. South Dakota incorporates by reference the federal MCLs set as of July 1, 2018. The state must update the regulations to incorporate by reference the newest version of federal MCLs with limits for PFOA and PFOS.
South Dakota is actively monitoring drinking water for PFAS levels and has implemented measures to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
