South Carolina has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Regulations.
Part 393 applies to a commercial motor vehicle and its driver, operating in intrastate commerce with a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight, or gross combination weight rating equal to or exceeding 26,001 pounds, or a commercial motor vehicle and its driver, transporting hazardous materials required to be placarded.
No requirements.
No tire may have any block, stud, flange, cleat, spike, or any other protuberance of any material other than rubber projecting beyond the tread surface of the tire.
Tire chains of reasonable size are allowed when required for safety because of snow, ice, or other conditions tending to cause a vehicle to skid.
