New York has state-specific regulations for Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) in drinking water.
- PFOA: 10 parts per trillion (ppt)
- PFOS: 10 ppt
Until 2029, when the federal drinking water MCL standards of 4 ppt for both PFOA and PFOS are finalized, public water systems must meet New York State maximum contaminant levels of 10 ppt for PFOA and PFOS.
New York pledges to work to harmonize the state and federal requirements for all New York State public drinking water systems. New York Senate Bill 9661 (introduced May 16, 2024) would set MCL levels at 4 ppt for PFOA and PFOS. The bill has been referred to the Health Committee.
