Nevada adopted Sec. 390.21 of the Federal Regulations.
Section 390.21 applies to intrastate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, or gross combination weight of 26,001 or more pounds or any vehicle transporting hazardous materials as defined in NRS 459.7024.
Common or contract motor carriers operating in intrastate commerce must have the name of the carrier operating the vehicle displayed on each side of the power unit. Common or contract motor carriers operating under the jurisdiction of the Transportation Services Authority must have the symbols “CPCN” and the number of the certificate, (or the symbols “MV” and the number of the permit if operating under a permit for a contract motor carrier) displayed on each side of the power unit.
Private carriers operating vehicles in intrastate commerce with an unladen weight of 10,001 pounds or more must have the name of the carrier operating the vehicle displayed on each side of the power unit.
A lessee operating a power unit pursuant to a short-term or long-term lease shall have his name and number painted or affixed on the vehicle.
All information must be displayed in letters not less than 2 inches high in sharply contrasting colors which are legible from a distance of at least 50 feet. Any removable sign or placard must be made of a durable material such as wood, plastic or metal. Each device must bear a serial number in the carrier’s own series, and the carrier must keep a proper record of each number.
All commercial motor carriers (for-hire and private) operating interstate are subject to the marking requirements of 49 CFR 390.21 which requires all CMVs to display, on both sides of the power unit, the US DOT number and the legal name of the business entity that owns or controls the motor carrier operation, or the “doing business as” (DBA) name, as it appears on the Form MCS-150.
Any new or used commercial vehicles added to a motor carrier’s fleet must be identified with the US DOT number and single trade name before being put into service.
The regulations do not require the city, state, or MC number to be displayed on the vehicle.
