North Dakota has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Regulations.
Part 393 applies to intrastate commercial motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight, and gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, or a vehicle used to transport hazardous materials requiring a placard.

No tire may have any block, stud, flange, cleat, spike or any other protuberance of any material other than rubber projecting beyond the tread surface of the tire.
Exception — From October 15 to April 15, pneumatic tires which have metal studs which do not project more than one sixteenth of an inch beyond the tread of the traction surface of the tire are allowed.
Tire chains of reasonable proportions are allowed.
