In North Dakota, private employers must reimburse employees for expenses related to necessary duties or incurred through following the direction of the employer. This can include expenses related to remote work, such as internet or cell phone costs. An exception is for expenses incurred by the employee to purchase or rent tools of a trade or any equipment that may be used by the employee outside of their employment.
State officials and employees are entitled to be reimbursed for mileage and travel expenses related to business travel.
