Overview

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles has authority to regulate for-hire and private motor carriers with respect to safety. The Division has adopted Parts 390-397 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and all subsequent amendments.

Applicability

The regulations apply to all intrastate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 26,001 pounds or more, whichever is greater and any vehicles transporting hazardous materials required to be placarded.
