Louisiana does not currently follow federal Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs). The state adopts by reference the federal maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) as in effect on July 1, 2015; however, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized MCLs for PFOA and PFOS in 2024.
Louisiana has no state-specific PFAS drinking water requirements. Local utilities are preparing to meet federal guidelines by 2027.
