The Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health Division (HIOSH) has adopted most OSHA standards related to state and local government and private employers. The state has no additional workplace violence prevention laws; however, HIOSH has a directive in place specifically addressing workplace violence and says it may conduct inspections and issue citations for it under the agency’s General Duty Clause. The directive identifies certain industries as being at high risk for workplace violence, such as health care, corrections, late-night retail, taxi services, and more.
