The California Occupational Health and Safety Agency (Cal/OSHA) has adopted requirements regarding hexavalent chromium that are different from and in some cases stricter than the federal standard.
- Cal/OSHA has a stricter permissible exposure limit (PEL) than federal OSHA when hexavalent chromium is part of the substance strontium chromate: 0.05 µg/m3.
- Cal/OSHA has a ceiling limit for hexavalent chromium that is not included in the federal rule:
- Cal/OSHA Ceiling Limit: 0.1mg/m3.
- Sampling Time to sample for ceiling: 15 to 30 minutes.
- Flow rate: For expected low concentrations it is advisable to increase the flow rate from 2L/min up to 4 L/min; do not exceed 4 L/min.
