A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:
- Design, installation, maintenance and operation of piped systems must be in accordance with Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet G8.1.
- Safety relief devices for compressed gas containers, portable tanks, and cargo tanks must be installed and maintained in accordance with Compressed Gas Association Pamphlets S.1.1, 1965 addenda, and S1.2.
- Air receiver safety valves and all new air receivers installed after the effective date of these standards must be constructed in accordance with A.S.M.E. Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII.
- Compressed gas cylinders must be under control and in a safe conditions as determined by a visual inspection.
- Maintain the following distance between bulk oxygen storage containers and the items mentioned below:
- 50 feet from any combustible structures.
- 50 feet from places of public assembly.
- 50 feet from areas occupied by non-ambulatory patients.
- 25 feet from congested areas such as office, lunchrooms, lockers rooms, clocking areas, etc.
- 10 feet from any public sidewalk.
- 5 feet from any line of adjoining property.
- Give compressed air receivers sufficient clearance to allow a complete external inspection and to avoid surface corrosion.
- Locate the compressed air receiver as close to the compressor or after-cooler as possible to keep the length of the discharge pipe short.
- Supply the following compressed air receivers, if subject to corrosion, with either (1) a drain pipe and valve at the lowest point in the vessel or (2) a pipe extending inward from any other location to within one-quarter inch of the lowest point:
- Receivers having an internal and external operating pressure over 15 psi with no limitation on size, and
- Air receivers having an inside diameter exceeding six inches, with no limitation on pressure.
