Walking/Working surfaces - Hawaii

Hawaii incorporates by reference the July 1, 2017, edition of the federal OSHA general industry requirements for walking/working surfaces; therefore, the state requirements are identical to the federal requirements, except for some revised definitions found in HAR 12-60-50.

Any new federal OSHA final rule that impacts the general industry walking/working surfaces requirements and that took or takes effect after July 1, 2017, will not be effective until the state takes action. For example, currently, the following federal OSHA final rule is not effective in Hawaii — Walking-Working Surfaces, Personal Protective Equipment (Fall Protection Systems), and Special Industries (Electric Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution); Corrections, dated December 17, 2019.
