A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:
- Tremolite, anthophyllite, and actinolite in the non-asbestiform mineral habit, are covered in a separate section (5208.1).
- Cal/OSHA adds a definition for Incident.
- The provisions of the section are subject to the requirements of the Occupational Carcinogen Control Act of 1976 (Labor Code, Division 5, Part 10).
- You cannot spray any substance containing any amount of asbestos in or upon a building or other structure during its construction, alteration, or repair (with exceptions).
- The employer must obtain the examining physician’s opinion about any recommended limitations on the employee or upon the use of personal protective equipment. This equipment includes clothing or respirators for any job requiring the use of respiratory protective equipment or personal protective equipment.
- The employer shall obtain the examining physician's opinion as to whether the employee has any detected medical conditions that would place the employee at an increased risk of material health impairment from exposure to asbestos. This must be obtained within 45 working days of the employee's assignment to any work involving exposure to asbestos in excess of the TWA and/or excursion limit.
