Arizona has adopted many federal OSHA standards and incorporates them by reference. The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) plan has no additional heat injury and illness prevention regulations; however, there is a state emphasis program (SEP) to help employers identify and reduce worker exposure to heat-related injury and illness.
The ADOSH SEP for heat-related illness adds an inspection component for Arizona employers to monitor for dangerous conditions. Employers must take steps to reduce heat stress in the workplace using engineering and work practice controls, such as increasing air flow in the workspace, limiting time that workers spend in the heat, training supervisors and workers about how to prevent and treat heat stress, and more. Employers must ensure that workers are properly acclimatized to working in hot environments and provide appropriate hydration and rest breaks for such workers.
