The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) is a non-profit group that is comprised of Canadian federal, provincial, and territorial governmental representatives, as well as a wide variety of transportation industry representatives. All parties belonging to the CCMTA have an interest in at least one aspect of motor vehicle control and highway safety.
Various committees and their working groups and task forces within the CCMTA carry out research, raise awareness of road safety issues, and work towards goals focused on reducing accidents and deaths on Canada’s highways.
The CCMTA was created in order to provide uniformity in road transportation laws, regulations, and policies.
CCMTA’s three standing committees are made up of governmental representatives from all Canadian jurisdictions. Transport Canada representatives are also involved to represent federal government. The three standing committees are as follows:
The CCMTA is also responsible for the National Safety Code for motor carriers. The National Safety Code is a group of 16 standards created to efficiently apply motor carrier, vehicle, and driver safety standards and procedures uniformly throughout Canada.
