Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Iowa has no state laws legalizing marijuana or medical marijuana.
Under Iowa’s Medical Cannabidiol Act, employers are not required to permit or accommodate the use, consumption, possession, transfer, display, transportation, distribution, sale, or growing of marijuana in the workplace.
They can establish and enforce a zero-tolerance policy or a drug-free workplace policy by use of a drug testing policy that meets with state requirements.
Employers may implement policies restricting the use of marijuana by employees for the purpose of promoting workplace health and safety.
