Utah has adopted most federal OSHA standards and incorporates them by reference. The Utah Occupational Safety and Health Division (UOSH) has a unique standard for conveyors at UAC R614-5-2.
The rule covers minimum standards for the installation, operation, and maintenance of all types of conveyors and conveying systems. This includes rules for proper:
- Guarding;
- Inspection and maintenance;
- Use of walkways, platforms, and balconies;
- Brakes and backstops;
- Dust control;
- Fire protection;
- Illumination and electrical safety; and more.
The rule also says that if a specific hazardous condition is not covered, the ANSI/ASME B20.1 – 1996 standard should be used as a safety guide.
