Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Maine law covers all employees not covered by federal COBRA, and applies to hospital, surgical, and major medical plans. The group member must have been covered by the plan for at least three months. Coverage lasts for 12 months upon termination of employment, or upon termination of the policy. There are also provisions for employees who are temporarily laid off or are losing employment because of a compensable injury or disease.
Maine's law also has provisions regarding premium assistance under federal law (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act).
