Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Iowa law covers all employers, not just employers with 20 or more employees.
Employee must have had coverage for three months prior to termination of coverage.
Coverage includes accident or health benefits only; may exclude additional benefits such as dental care, vision care, or prescription drug benefits.
The law provides for nine months of continued coverage.
Plan termination is a valid reason for coverage.
Participants may convert from group coverage at the termination of the coverage.
