| Class | Description |
|---|---|
| Class A | Any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, providing the GCWR of the vehicle(s) being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds. |
| Class B | Any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more and any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR. |
| Class C | Any single vehicle that does not meet either the definition of Class A or Class B but is used in the transportation of hazardous materials, which requires the vehicle to be placarded under applicable law or designed to transport 16 or more passengers including driver. |
| Class D | A license to drive any single vehicle weighing less than 26,001 pounds and vehicles towing 10,000 pounds or less. |
