Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Kansas has labor relations laws for private sector employment; however these laws are not substantially different to the provisions of the National Labor Relations Act.
The state does prohibit employers from employing any person to spy upon employees or their representatives regarding labor relations rights.
Kansas also has reporting requirements, similar to LMRDA, for every labor organization having 100 or more members. Such organizations must file an annual report in writing with the secretary of state on or before April 15.
Right to work
Kansas does have a right to work law. Closed shop agreements are unlawful.
Agriculture employment
Kansas has specific labor relations laws for agriculture employment, which guarantees right to collective bargaining, but prohibits striking under certain circumstances.
Public employment
Kansas has specific labor relations laws for public employment and special laws governing teachers.
