Tennessee has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).
Part 393 applies to commercial motor vehicles operated in intrastate commerce to transport property that have a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, or a motor vehicle of any gross vehicle weight transporting hazardous materials.

| Mudflaps | Any motor vehicle including a truck tractor or combination of vehicles with a carrying capacity > 3,000 lbs. must be equipped with rear fenders, mudflaps, or mudguards of a size that substantially prevents the projection of rocks, dirt, water, and other substances to the rear. |
| Tires | Studded Tires - No tire may have any block, stud, flange, cleat, spike, or any other protuberance of any material other than rubber projecting beyond the tread surface of the tire. |
| Tire Chains - Tire chains of reasonable size are allowed when required for safety because of snow, ice, or other conditions tending to cause a vehicle to skid. |
