North Dakota has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), and amendments as they occur.
Part 393 applies to intrastate commercial motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight, and gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, or a vehicle used to transport hazardous materials requiring a placard.

| Tires | Studded Tires - No tire may have any block, stud, flange, cleat, spike, or any other protuberance of any material other than rubber projecting beyond the tread surface of the tire. Exception: From October 15 to April 15, pneumatic tires which have metal studs which do not project more than one-sixteenth of an inch beyond the tread of the traction surface of the tire are allowed. |
