Maine has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), as amended.
Part 393 applies to a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or a vehicle transporting hazardous materials which require placarding.

| Tires | Studded Tires - No tire may have metal studs, wires, spikes, or other metal protruding from the tire tread from May 1 to October 1. |
| Tire Chains - Tire chains of reasonable size may be used when required for safety because of snow, ice, or other slippery conditions. |
