Kansas has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), as in effect on October 1, 2022, with the exception of 393.7, 393.24(d), and 393.77(b)(15).
Part 393 applies to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or vehicles transporting hazardous materials requiring placarding.
Exception: Private motor carriers domiciled in Kansas operating vehicles with a GVWR, GCWR, GVW, GCW of 10,001 lbs. to 26,000 lbs. must comply with Part 393, Subpart F (coupling devices) and Part 393, Subpart I (load securement) and are exempt from compliance with the rest of Part 393. This exemption does not apply to motor vehicles which are used in the transportation of hazardous materials and required to be placarded.

| Tires | Studded Tires - No tire may have any protuberance of any material, other than rubber, which projects beyond the tread of the traction surface of the tire. |
| Tire Chains - Tire chains of reasonable size may be used on any vehicle when required for safety because of conditions tending to cause a vehicle to slide or skid. |
