Georgia has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), with subsequent amendments.
Part 393 applies to any self-propelled or towed motor vehicle used on a highway in intrastate and interstate commerce when the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or is of any size transporting a placardable amount of hazardous materials.

| Mudflaps | All trucks, full trailers, semitrailers and pole trailers must have metal protectors or flexible flaps on the rearmost wheels to prevent the throwing of dirt, water, etc. onto the windshields of following vehicles. These protectors must have a ground clearance of no more than 1/2 the distance from the center of the rearmost axle to the center of the flaps. Flaps must be at least as wide as the tires they are protecting. Exception: Metal protectors or flexible flaps are not required on any truck, full trailer, semitrailer, or pole trailer with fenders, body construction, or enclosures that prevent the throwing of dirt, water, etc. onto the windshields of following vehicles. |
| Tires | Studded Tires - No tire may have blocks, studs, flanges, cleats, spikes, or other protuberances of any material other than rubber projecting beyond the tread surface. |
| Tire Chains - Tire chains of reasonable size or tires equipped with safety metal spike studs may be used on any vehicle when required for safety because of snow, ice, or other conditions tending to cause a vehicle to skid. Operators of commercial motor vehicles with four or more drive wheels traveling on a road declared limited access due to a declared state of emergency for inclement winter weather conditions must affix tire chains to each of the outermost drive wheel tires. |
