Connecticut has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), by reference with subsequent amendments as they occur.
Part 393 applies to intrastate commercial motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight of 18,001 pounds or more, and to any size commercial motor vehicle transporting hazardous materials requiring placards.

| Mudflaps | Fenders are required on all wheels unless a vehicle is so designed to prevent splash or spray to the rear of the vehicle. Trucks, truck-tractors, full trailers, or semitrailers with registered gross weight exceeding three tons may not operate on the public highways unless equipped with metal protectors or flexible flaps behind the rearmost wheels to curtail the spray and splash of mud, water and other materials on the windshields of following vehicles. |
