Arizona has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), revised as of October 1, 2023 (and no later amendments or editions).

Part 393 applies to a single motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles which has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or gross weight of 26,001 pounds or more, and vehicles hauling hazardous materials in an amount required to be placarded.

First Aid Kit No requirements.
MudflapsAll trucks, trailers, and semitrailers must be equipped with rear splashguards that must:
  • Be attached in a manner that prevents the splashing of mud or water on the windshields of other vehicles,
  • Be constructed of a flexible rubberized material,
  • Extend to a length of not more than 8 ins. from the ground,
  • Be wide enough to cover the full tread or treads of the tires being protected,
  • Be installed close enough to the tread surface of the tire or wheel to control the side throw of the bulk of the thrown road surface material, and
  • Be attached in a manner that, regardless of movement the splashguards retain their general parallel relationship to the tread surface of the tire or wheel under all ordinary operating conditions.
Exceptions: There are exceptions to this requirement for:
  • A pickup truck ≤ 10,000 lbs. GVWR that has not been modified,
  • A truck tractor or converter dolly when used in combination with another vehicle, and
  • A single-axle, tandem-axle, or triple-axle trailer with fenders wide enough to cover the full tread or treads of the tires being protected that extend to a length of not more than 14 ins. from the ground.
Tires
Studded Tires - No tire may have blocks, studs, flanges, cleats, spikes, or other protuberances of any material other than rubber projecting beyond the tread surface.
Exception: Pneumatic tires with studs may be used between October 1 and May 1, if the metal in contact with the roadway never exceeds 3 percent of the total tire area.
Tire Chains - Tire chains of reasonable size may be used for safety when snow, ice, or other conditions tending to cause skidding to exist.
