The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Department of Public Safety has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), including all future amendments.
The Public Service Commission has regulations that are similar to the FMCSRs.
Under the Department of Public Safety adoption, Part 393 applies to intrastate commercial motor vehicles 26,001 pounds or more, or vehicles of any size which transport a placardable amount of hazardous materials.
First Aid Kit | No requirements |
Mudflaps | All buses, trucks, and semitrailers regulated by the Public Service Commission must have mudflaps covering the rear of the rear wheels sufficient to prevent as far as practicable gravel, stones, or other materials from being thrown into the windshields of other vehicles. |
Tires | Studded Tires - No tire with any block, stud, flange, cleat, spike or other protuberance made of any material other than rubber which projects beyond the tread of the traction surface may be used on a vehicle. Exception: Metal studded or safety spike tires of reasonable proportions may be used when required for safety because of snow, rain, or other conditions tending to cause a vehicle to slide or skid. |
Tire Chains - Tire chains of reasonable proportions may be used when required for safety because of snow, rain, or other conditions tending to cause a vehicle to slide or skid. | |
Windshield and Windows | The windshields and windows of all motor vehicles shall afford a clear view, and no sign, poster, or other non-transparent material may be displayed on any glass area. |
