Mississippi has adopted Part 396 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), as amended.
Part 396 applies to commercial motor vehicles operated in intrastate commerce with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, or vehicles transporting a placardable amount of hazardous materials.
| Annual Inspections - Motor Carrier | The Department of Safety administers and enforces an official mandatory annual vehicle inspection program. All motor vehicles, trailers, semitrailers, and pole trailers registered in the state must be inspected and the certificate of inspection must be displayed in the lower left-hand corner of the windshield or upon such vehicle so as to be visible from the outside. Although this inspection is applicable to motor vehicles, etc. registered in other states and operating on the highways of Mississippi, carriers subject to the FMCSRs are exempted from the provisions of this statute. |
