Maine has adopted Part 396 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), as amended.
Part 396 applies to a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or a vehicle transporting hazardous materials which require placarding.
| Annual Inspections - Motor Carrier | The State Police administer an official mandatory periodic vehicle inspection program. All motor vehicles required to be registered in Maine must be inspected once a year at official inspection stations. If the condition of the vehicle conforms in every respect as required by law and the rules and regulations governing inspection, an official inspection sticker will be placed in the lower left-hand corner of the windshield, or upper center of windshield. This mandatory inspection program is considered equivalent to the Federal annual inspection requirement in Part 396. |
