CMV inspections - District of Columbia
The District of Columbia has adopted Part 396 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), as currently in effect.
Part 396 applies to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating exceeding 10,000 pounds, and to any vehicle transporting hazardous materials requiring placards.
| Annual Inspections - Motor Carrier | The District has an official mandatory, periodic vehicle inspection program under the jurisdiction of the Department of Public Works. Every motor vehicle or trailer registered in the District must be inspected annually and an officially approved inspection sticker must be obtained for each vehicle. Any fleet of 500 or more motor vehicles registered in the District in the name of one owner may be authorized to provide for the inspection at a location other than a District inspection station, as approved by the Chief of the Bureau of Motor Vehicle Services. Such inspections will be done by Department personnel and conform with the annual inspection schedule. |
