Alaska has adopted Part 396 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), revised as of March 15, 2023.

Part 396 applies to a self-propelled or towed vehicle that has a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating greater, gross vehicle weight, gross combination weight of 14,000 pounds or more, or is used to transport hazardous materials.
