Colorado has adopted Part 396 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), as in effect on October 1, 2024.
Part 396 applies to a self-propelled or towed vehicle bearing an apportioned plate or having a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination rating of at least 16,001 pounds. Part 396 also applies to a vehicle used on a public highway to transport a placardable amount of hazardous materials.
Vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination rating of 10,001 pounds to 16,000 pounds must comply with the annual vehicle inspection requirements (396.17).
