Clean air operating permits - Indiana
Summary of Requirements:
- Determine if an operating permit applies to your facility or activity
- Obtain an operating permit
- Operate according to the terms in the permit
- Certify at least annually that your facility is in compliance with the permit requirements.
Indiana’s requirements regarding clean air operating permits include some regulatory information beyond the federal requirements. A summary of the additional requirements includes:
Fees: Permit fees apply
Thresholds: Indiana has developed a State operating permit program that is enforceable by federal EPA and allows sources to limit their air emissions to below the Title V threshold levels. A Federally Enforceable State Operating Permit (FESOP) permit can provide more operational flexibility. Many sources seek a FESOP to limit their emissions and not be subject to the Title V program.
Differences in regions: Check to see if your area is in attainment or non-attainment with federal air quality standards, which can affect permitting decisions.
