In Arizona, a person may not operate a vehicle if the person physically holds or supports a phone with any part of their body.
This prohibition does not apply when:
- Communicating with law enforcement or other emergency services;
- Used by law enforcement or other emergency services personnel;
- Stopped at a red light or railroad crossing;
- Using a phone with an earpiece, headphone, or device worn on a wrist to conduct voice-based communications; or
- Using a phone in a hands-free manner for:
- Navigation of the vehicle,
- Use of a global positioning system, or
- Obtaining vehicle information or information related to driving a vehicle.
