Wisconsin has adopted Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).
The adoption includes regulations dealing with projecting loads (393.87) and cargo securement (Part 393, Subpart I).
Part 393 applies to any self-propelled or towed motor vehicle used on a highway in intrastate commerce when the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or is of any size transporting a placardable amount of hazardous materials.
In Wisconsin, no person may operate a vehicle on a highway unless the vehicle is constructed and loaded as to prevent its contents from dropping, sifting, leaking, or otherwise escaping.
